The utility of law for the society is perceived from the concept that every wrong, that occurs, has a corresponding remedy. The subject ‘torts’ deals with such civil wrongs, independent of contract, for which appropriate remedy is in action for damage or injury. This principle constitutes the very foundation of law of torts. Unlike other branches of law, the law of torts does not depend upon the codification of the various aspects thereof, by the concerned legislatures. The study of Torts’ helps the citizens not to perform wrongs as they are punishable and it also enlightens them to seek judicial redressal for the wrongs done to him by others.
This book provides a short cut to the students of the 5 year law degree course to enable them to get a broad under-standing of the topics that would be covered under the revised syllabus with effect from the academic year 2009-2010. Though every effort has taken to incorporate the developments / amendments on the subject, it may happen that some developments might have taken place subsequent to release of the book for publication. Hence, the readers are therefore advised to study recent amendments / case laws.
